Responsible Gambling Board Oversight (RGBO) overview

Welcome to the Responsible Gambling Board Oversight (RGBO) course. This course is specifically designed for NSW Club Directors in venues with gaming machines to meet their legislated training requirements.

This course will provide a solid foundation for new Club Directors and enable experienced Club Directors to further develop their skills and knowledge in operating a gambling venue.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to effectively contribute to your club’s commitment to responsible gambling, ensuring both compliance and the wellbeing of your patrons.

Entry requirements

Students will need to meet the following entry requirements prior to course commencement.

  • Ensure they are able to attend the 1hr virtual workshop for the duration of the course.
  • Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – Creating a Unique Student Identifier (USI) is free and will only take a few minutes. You only need to create a USI once and it will stay with you for life. To create a USI, go to: https://www.usi.gov.au/students/get-a-usi
  • Have a valid government issued photo identification card (passport, drivers license, photo card, proof of age card). Expired ID will not be accepted and certificates are not able to issued unless identity is verified.
System Requirements
In order to complete this online course, students will need access to the following:
  • Have access to a PC/ Laptop with speakers, microphone and webcam
  • Have access to high speed Wi-Fi or cable capabilities necessary to research, upload and download documents
  • PDF Reader
  • Suitable internet browser such as; Google Chrome, Safari or Internet Explorer
  • Hold sound computer skills
  • Have latest operating system e.g. Windows 10, Mac OSX High Sierra, iPad ISO10 or higher
  • Have access to a unique email address. This email address cannot be used by another student as it becomes your unique login.
Existing Skills & Knowledge
Students are required to have the following skills and knowledge prior to enrolment:
  • Reading and writing – a learner will be able to read, comprehend and write a range of texts within a variety of contexts.
  • Oral communication – a learner will be able to use and respond to spoken language including some unfamiliar material within a variety of contexts.
  • Numeracy and mathematics – a learner will be able to recognise and use a variety of conventions and symbolism of formal mathematics.
  • Learning skills – a learner will be able to source relevant information on laws, regulations and codes of practice relating to the responsible services of gambling and keep that knowledge updated
  • Teamwork skills – a learner will be able to communicate with team members to ensure proper responsible service of alcohol practices within their work environment
  • Self-management skills – a learner will be able to deal with hostile and uncooperative customers in a professional manner and in line with organisational procedures

RGBO training is available to all Club Directors of venues with gaming machines in NSW as a way to meet the 1 July 2024 mandatory gaming reform training requirements in lieu of completing the full Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) and Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG) courses.

By 30 June 2025, all Club Directors of venues with gaming machines in NSW must complete one of the following training requirements:

  1. Complete Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) and Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG) training courses

OR

  1. Complete Responsible Gambling Board Oversight (RGBO) training course.

The RGBO course covers:
  • Confidently understand the gaming reforms and oversee compliance with legislation with regarding harm minimisation within your club
  • Take a proactive approach to minimising gambling related harm
  • Understand the importance of leadership for senior staff in promoting a culture of responsible gambling and proactive harm minimisation.
    Certification
    Upon successful completion of an RGBO course, you will receive a course completion certificate.
    Competency cards
    No competency card is issued for this course.
    This course is conducted during a 1 hr Virtual classroom, covering with all learning materials and activities.
    Once you enrol into the course you will be required to select your preferred date to attend the virtual workshop, the workshop will require that you attend an instructor lead virtual classroom for 1 hr. The virtual workshop will be run through Zoom and you will be required to attend and engage in the class for the duration of the workshop.
    Upon attending the workshop,  you will be awarded your Statement of Achievement as evidence of course completion.
